Tile

Roof tile has been a roofing material used to protect the building and its contents for hundreds of years. Typically, roof tile is either slate or clay. Tile is a very expensive roofing material, but its biggest draw back is the weight of the material. The structure would require an engineer to prepare the roofing system for the weight load. Additional support is needed compared to other roofing material such as shingles, which can also be very expensive.
Tile does, however, provide aesthetic beauty. Its lifespan is the longest of all material, but it is fragile. Hail, snow weight, and fallen limbs can often damage the tile requiring replacement. Some positive features of tile, however, are that it is invulnerable to rot and insects and has good fire protection.
